Team Bay Cove Profile: Andrea Schussler

Each year, we’re always thrilled to have bib numbers in the Boston Marathon, and full of admiration and gratitude to the athletes that choose to run for our agency as part of Team Bay Cove.

Andrea Schussler is an amazing Bay Cove supporter who’s running the marathon for the third time. We had the recent opportunity to talk to Andrea about her run for Bay Cove, and get some insight into how she’s preparing for the big race on Monday, April 17!

Why are you running the Boston Marathon for Bay Cove? As a member of a family impacted by addiction, it’s important to me to support an organization focused on helping people struggling with the disease.

What do you enjoy most about running? The way you leave the world behind as you concentrate on your breath and the rhythm of your feet hitting the pavement.

What most excites you about running the Boston Marathon? It’s such a storied race. I am thrilled to be able to run in the footsteps of so many legendary runners. It was my ambition to run Boston ever since I moved to Massachusetts in the late 90s, and Team Bay Cove’s given me the chance to do it three times now!

Do you have a favorite spot for training runs? The winding, wooded roads in my area - so beautiful!

What is your favorite pre-running snack? My husband’s homemade granola.

Are there any great books, podcasts, magazine or websites about running that have been helpful to you? Runner’s World always has amazing tips. I also found Scott Jurek’s book North, which details his record-breaking run of the Appalachian Trail, to be inspirational.

If you were a superhero, which one would you be, and why? Iron Man. That combination of intelligence, attitude, flight, and armor can’t be beat!

Who would be your ideal running/training partner? Me! Running is my alone time.
